British artist draws inspiration from Mumbai

From the verandah of his luxury suite in Colaba, artist Howard Hodgkin can see a broad sweep of the city’s skyline. There’s the red dome of the Taj Mahal Hotel, the stone silhouette of the Rajabai Clock Tower and the modern, curved Bombay Stock Exchange. Navigating the city’s teeming streets has become tougher for the 82-year-old painter so he savours this bird’s eye view. “I like to keep coming back here,” says Hodgkin, whose love affair with Mumbai began in 1964. “I just feel at home.”
