MGM confirms dengue death, NMMC in denial

NAVI MUMBAI: MGM hospital in Vashi has issued a death certificate for Seawoods resident Rajith Balakrishnan last week, which stated that he died of dengue. However NMMC’s head of health department, Deepak Paropkari said, “It is a suspected case.” The department, therefore, did not confirm the hospital’s stand. The civic health department said it had sent 15 suspected samples since January till date to National Institute of Virology, Pune and Thane Civil Hospital. But the tests did not confirm that the samples were positive for dengue.

MGM said that the civic body had collected the samples of the deceased. “Rajith was admitted in our hospital for three days. He tested positive for dengue.” A civic official, C D Tayde, said he stays in the same locality as the deceased, close to L&T Seawoods station project, and his wife and daughter also tested positive for dengue. “I have admitted them to a Kharghar hospital. This area is prone to people suffering from malaria and dengue,” he said.
