More than 24 hrs on, still no water

NAVI MUMBAI: The residents of Kharghar, Taloja, Ulwe and Dronagiri are complaining of getting no water on Tuesday even after the scheduled 24-hour cut got over.

After promising to restore supply by Tuesday morning, Cidco officials later said that supply will resume by late evening. But residents said that the water supply was not restored till the time of evening supply.

“We are sure we will not be able to get water till Wednesday since the pumping system takes too long to streamline the supply. We faced a cut recently and did not get water for almost five days,” said Mohit Gunde, a Kharghar resident.

An officer from Cidco water supply wing said, “Supply has been resumed from pumping station but due to an empty line it will take few hours to reach the consumers. Supply to Kharghar, Dronagir and Ulwe is expected to start soon and Taloja will get water by Wednesday evening.”

But Cidco’s assurance has not gone down well among the residents who have to mainly depend on tanker water, unlike areas under NMMC where there is almost no problem with the supply.

Many complained that there is acute water shortage since the last two months in Cidco areas.

“The supply is never restored on time every time there is a breakdown. Cidco officials just give us blank promises to appease us. Even this time the deadline of restoration was not followed by authorities,” said Ram Apsinge from Dronagiri.

Cidco had shut down water supply from 9am on June 1 to 9am on June 2 citing maintenance work in the supply line. Protests during Talvali demolition drive
